Web Dew
Foggy-wet morning,
Dewy,
Glistened
Magic beading off each web.
No hurries mentioned,
I wander eastern…
Find myself upon cold sand,
Greeting the lazy tide
At the hazy dawn.
Watch a fat sun climb,
Heavy-bottomed,
Barely breaching the horizon.
The sea’s so determined to hold its gold,
Make him swim,
Keep it swolled,
But he heaved as it seethed,
Circumference unruly,
Beats of flicker-whip stitching him high.
The battle was lost,
The colours bled off:
A white sun hung bright,
Small yet so blinding
On blurred lavender
And washed-out blue sky.
Proving too much for me,
I made my retreat
To the dark
Westerly wood,
Where shaggy old trees
Whisper breezy dreams.
Ghostly white beams were sent,
Gleamed through shadowed leaves,
Haunting the palmetto and oak,
Soaking any leftover dawn:
Swirls of mist set alight
- Night is officially gone.
